Administrative-territorial structure
Ivano-Frankivsk region is situated in the West of Ukraine, not far from the geographical center of Europe. Its territory is in the middle latitudes, the temperate climate zone.
The boundaries of the Ivano-Frankivsk region have very winding line, so the total length – about 760 km. According to its configuration, the territory of Ivano-Frankivsk region is like a rhomb, each side of which borders on one of the neighboring regions. In the north-east – with Ternopil region, and in the south-east by the White Cheremosh river and actually on Cheremosh river – with Chernivtsi region. In the northwest – with the Lviv region. The southwest boundary of the Ivano-Frankivsk region passes through the main Carpathian watershed separating the basins of the Tysa river with the Dniester and Prut rivers. On this way, the region borders with the Ukrainian Transcarpathia, as well as on the Chyvchyn ridge – with Romania (the length of the state border – is 45 km).
The area of the Ivano-Frankivsk region is 13.9 thousand km2, or 2.3% of the whole Ukrainian territory. Among the country`s territories it occupies 21 position. Smaller in size just Chernivtsi, Transcarpathian and Ternopil regions.
